Ashland, OH 44805
On this date, DEA will coordinate a collaborative effort with state and local law enforcement agencies focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from our nation’s medicine cabinets. Local drop-off locations will be open from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the 25th and include the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, 1205 E. Main Street, and the Ashland County Service Center, 1763 State Route 60.
This national take-back day will provide a unified opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications to law enforcement officers for safe disposal. This one-day effort will bring national focus to the issue of pharmaceutical controlled substance abuse.
Prescription drug abuse has been identified as a rising public health problem on the national level and has reached an epidemic in Ohio. Ohio’s death rate due to unintentional drug poisoning has increased more than 300 percent from 1999 to 2007, and is now the leading cause of injury death in Ohio.
This event is a collaborative community effort between the following local partners: Ashland County Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse (ACCADA); Ashland County Health Department; Ashland County Sheriff’s Office; Mental Health & Recovery Board and Samaritan Regional Health System. State partners include: Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services (ODADAS); Ohio Prescription Drug Abuse Task Force; Ohio Department of Public Health; and Ohio Department of Health.
